Special Spotlight on Schools Around the World Series

We are starting a special series spotlighting schools around the world that we have the honor of working with

George Washington Carver Elementary

George Washington Carver Elementary in Chicago has become a shining example of vision, leadership, and creativity under the guidance of Principal Venus DeLoach. Through a powerful collaboration with the David Z Foundation, Global Lighthouse Studios and support from an Ingenuity in Chicago grant, Carver students have had the opportunity to bring their voices and ideas to life through music and the arts.

One of the highlights of this partnership is their award-winning original student song, “Library Adventure” a joyful celebration of storytelling, imagination, and community. This project not only showcases the incredible talent of Carver’s young creators but also highlights the impact of music as a tool for empowerment and learning.

With the newly unified school building and a strong sense of community spirit, Carver Elementary continues to grow as an inspiring part of the Global Lighthouse Studios family. Their journey is a testament to what happens when vision, faith, and collaboration open doors for students to shine.

John Dewey High School

John Dewey High School, located in Brooklyn, New York, has actively participated in several Global Lighthouse Studios programs under the leadership of Administrator Nancy Woods. The school’s students have explored storytelling, science, and the arts through experiences like Journey to the Heart of the Blues, where they received a stipend from the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation to support their music program with new instruments.

One of their talented young artists is also being considered for a future moon mission through our collaboration with Lady Rocket and Copernic Space, a testament to the creative excellence emerging from their classrooms. Most recently, John Dewey High School was featured for their Soap Box Derby project, a celebration of design thinking and student innovation.

Ms. Woods' continued dedication to providing meaningful, interdisciplinary opportunities has made John Dewey a valued part of the Global Lighthouse Studios family.
